When I was a child from the age of about 10 years on I passed the summers in the beach of Faro, watching the movements of the airport nearby. At that time there was still an aero club at Faro airport and sometimes the small planes passed over the beach. At this time the dream to fly appeared and never left me again.
When I was old enough I had no money to make a license and to think about becoming a private pilot. I finished school and university becoming a mechanical engineer and started working, keeping my dream alive all the time.
The years passed and the opportunities in the Algarve to become a private pilot decreased meanwhile. After years with a lot of personal and professional changes I had the opportunity to make the ATPL course at GAir to become a professional pilot. With this opportunity the idea and the desire developed to start a professional career in aviation. After having finished the theoretical course for professional pilots, I became a GAir group board member and operational manager of the school.
One year later I changed to maintenance as accountable manager and I finished the license as professional pilot in parallel.
Another year later I received and followed an invitation from a private company as pilot for executive flights. Later on I applied and then stopped a successful application at TAP in the middle - deciding for a different way of life than the airline pilot’s. Not only family was a reason for that, but even more a very appealing and exciting professional option in the highest level of the family’s business.
As aviation was also part of it, I did not have to give up flying. And I still take opportunities for further qualifications like the aerobatic license in the last year.
But more than that, I was lucky to have the chance to build up a new flight school, as among my aviator friends I found the right team available for this challenging project.
Flying is even a more than a passion for me - every flight is a challenge and a dream that came true, I am missing the right words to express the feeling, it is so huge…
